The company was established in 2010 by screenwriter and director Jonathan Hensleigh and bar owner Aaron Chepenik. Hensleigh and Chepenik moved from Los Angeles to Nevada in the early 2000s, setting up a bar (The Griffin) in downtown Las Vegas. The distillery operation followed, with the pair having to go through numerous legal hoops to establish the facility. The distillery produces a number of Smoke Wagon Bourbon labels, including the Straight Bourbon, the Small Batch, the Uncut Unfiltered Bourbon, and the Uncut The Younger. Their Silver Dollar Vodka features a reproduction of the notorious Morgan dollar (released in the late 19th Centruy and generally disliked due to the unflattering profile of Lady Liberty) for which the pair had to get permission from the US Treasury to feature on the label.
