WHY:Italy's first malt whisky brings a classic single malt Scotch profile, but with extra viscosity and texture on the palate due to the unique recipe. The Vina in particular has a rich, chewy mouthfeel loaded with raisined fruit and plenty of sweetness.HOW:Puni's Vina edition is matured entirely inhand-selected, fresh Marsala casks,giving it a similar profile as a Highland Sherry-aged malt, but with a character that is uniquely Italian. Puni also uses three types of malted grains for its mash bill (barley, wheat, and rye), giving the whiskey added definition, and making it simply a malt whisky, rather than a single malt from only one type of grain.WHAT:After years of contemplation and planning, builder Albrecht Ebensperger quite literally laid the foundation ofthe first Italian whisky distilleryin 2010 called Puni. The distillery sits in the midst of the Alps, near the Ortler mountain range, just outside the small town of Glurns in the Vinschgau valley.The distillery takes its name from the nearbyPuni river, which flows through the Vinschgau valley.
