Founded in 1998, it produces a portfolio of cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as well as a small selection of Riesling. The family-owned business was established by Marilynn and Carl Thoma in the foothills of the Oregon Coastal Range. The site is situated in a deep valley where cooling winds from the Pacific Ocean are channeled through create a cool microclimate in the vineyard. The flagship of the Van Duzer wine portfolio is the Bieze Vineyards Pinot Noir sourced from an external vineyard within the Eola-Amity Hills . A higher elevation of this vineyard creates a longer growing season allowing for grapes to accumulate delicate phenolics and reach an optimal ripeness level. The remaining Pinot Noir collection includes single vineyard and estate wines as well as the Carbonic Pinot Noir that is produced with the same fermentation method that is employed in Beaujolais. The Norris McKinley Riesling is sourced from estate vineyards within the Ribbon Ridge AVA whilst the Chardonnay range is sourced from the home estate and the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. Van Duzer is named after Henry B. Van Duzer who was the first chairman of the Oregon State Parks Commission in 1929.
