Aromas of bright black cherry, blackberry, subtle spice and charcoal introduce a broad, large-scaled, layered wine. It is texturally generous but structurally serious and savory.Reviews:Wine Advocate: Mature now, yet seemingly capable of continuing on in this vein for at least another decade, Spottswoode's 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is a terrific example of the sort of wine this picture-book estate can turn out. Always stylish and elegant, with terrific integration of fruit and oak, this vintage is lightening in color a bit, but it's so complete, offering complex aromas of cedar and vanilla that have indelibly melded with the black cherries, cassis and loam notes characteristic of the property. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it finishes long, with softly dusty tannins that will serve it well at the table the next time you can find a worthy piece of lamb or beef.Vinous: Huckleberry, blackberry, violet and licorice on the scented nose; became increasingly floral with air--a real essence of its St. Helena site. Enters the mouth suave, silky and floral; wonderfully pliant in spite of its acid-driven energy, precision and youthfulness. The wine's perfume and definition pique the taste buds in the middle palate and on the very long, rising finish, where the noble tannins play a supporting role without impinging. This wonderfully youthful, floral wine appears to be at the beginning of a long plane of peak drinkability. Really fills the mouth with perfume, but not at all weighty or overly fleshy. Finishes with great sappy, rising length and grip.Producer InformationSpottswoode is a historic, Napa Valley wine producer, located in St Helena. The family-owned estate have been producing wine from Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah for multiple generations. The estate itself was established in 1882 by George Schonewald. As well as planting the vineyard, he also constructed the Victorian farmhouse which remains on the estate today. It came under its current ownership in 1972 when the Novak family purchased the estate. The first Cabernet Sauvignon wine released in 1982. Today, there is 42 acres (17 hectares) of vines planted, most of which are Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards have been certified organic since 1992. The flagship wine of the portfolio is the Spottswoode's Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. It is aged for 20 months in French oak, two thirds of which is new, and depending on the vintage may have a proportion of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc is predominantly produced from estate fruit, with a small portion sourced from surrounding vineyards. Spottswood also produce a second Cabernet Sauvignon wine, the Lyndenhurst, and tiny amounts of Syrah that are bottled under the name 'Field Book'.
