It is still produced at the award-winning Buffalo Trace Distillery. This bourbon was crafted from Mash Bill #1, like other great blends such as E.H. Taylor, Buffalo Trace, and George T. Stagg. It is a sour mash of corn, rye, and malted barley, which has a lower content of rye, than mash bill #2. This historical bourbon is rich andcomplex, with mellow undertones of toffee on the nose. On the palate, you'll indulge with slight hints of citrus from orange peels, layered with notes of candied almonds and rich cocoa. The finish is light and dry with herbaceous notes and lingering hints of sweet fruits honey, leather, and oak.HistoryEagle Rare 10 Year Bourbonis a masterpiece that was first crafted at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfurt, Kentucky in 1975. During this time whisky sales were at an all-time low so Master distiller Charles Beam took the opportunity to put out more aged and pricier products. Initially, it was bottled at 101 proof as a means of reintroducing bourbon as a luxury spirit and as an homage and direct competitor to Wild Turkey. In 1989 The Sazerac Company purchased several brands including Eagle Rare and in 1992 they acquired Buffalo Trace Distillery. In 2005 the brand discontinued the 101 version in favor of the 90-proof version we know today. In 2012, after the brand had a series of updates to the facility they removed the ten-year aged statement from the name, and the single barrel proof signifier was removed from the bottle entirely. The new bottling system allowed them to become more efficient and blend the unique flavors of individual barrels into one bottle.
