With layers of complexity, the palate is decadent and rich, revealing flavors of blackberry, bramble, and hints of sage. Savory with layers and lift, the fruit is supported by the well-integrated oak notes creating structure and depth. Plush, mouth-filling, powerful yet reigned in tannins, finishing with a mouthwatering acidity with beautiful balance and complexity.Reviews:James Suckling: Aromas of crushed stone, lead pencil, blackcurrant and plum. Full-bodied with tight tannins. Dry, with juicy black fruit. Lovely tension. Great concentration, with depth and intensity. This will age wonderfully.Producer InformationSterling Vineyards is a Napa Valley wine producer, founded by British businessman Peter Newton in 1964. The brand is most famous for producing the first vintage-dated Merlot in California in its inaugural 1969 vintage. Other wines produced in Sterling's 1969 vintage were Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. The Sterling wine portfolio is led by the flagship Iridium Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from esate vineyards within the Napa Valley. After a hand-pick in the vineyardm the grapes are fermented in a combination of concrete, French oak and stainless steel tanks. It spends 18 months barrel-aging in new French oak prior to bottling. Additional labels include the Napa Valley collection as well as the Reserve which is sourced from vineyards in the Diamond Mountain AVA, Calistoga AVA, Yountville AVA and Mt. Veeder AVA. The winery is also known for the gondola that takes visitors from the carpark to the tasting room atop a 300-feet-high volcanic knoll. In 1977, Sterling was sold to the Coca Cola Company, which had a brief foray into the wine industry. Coca Cola decided to sell the vineyard in 1982 to Seagram, who ran the vineyard until it was bought in turn by the drinks conglomerate Diageo in 2001. The brand was purchased by Treasury Wine Estate in 2016.
