The estate spans over 2,700-acres, with 200-acres of sustainably produced wine grapes, 15-acres of walnuts, and 17-acres of organically certified olives. Halter Ranch produces 100% estate-grown Rhone and Bordeaux-style wines. Halter Ranch has a rich history dating back to 1878 when the land was used for raising livestock and growing such crops as oats, barley, safflower, and a variety of fruit trees. It also housed thoroughbred horses. Hansjrg Wyss purchased 900-acres of the original property in 2000 and named it Halter Ranch after his mother, Alice Halter. His vision was to transform the property into a vineyard and winery that would use methods of farming that were not harmful to the environment while still creating superior wine. Mr. Wyss was nominated for Wine Enthusiast's 2020 Wine Star Awards in the category of Social Visionary.
